Beyond the flavors needing to be robust, I didn’t want a recipe that took a decade to make– because let’s be honest, it’s mac and cheese and who’s got time for lengthy mac and cheese prep?! And then there’s the topping, which had to be crunchy, crispy, and tie everything together.
